Coney Island hosted its first-ever Parachute Jump holiday lighting ceremony Tuesday night.
Organizers say the lighting ceremony was to mark the official start of the holiday season at Coney Island.
The Parachute Jump represents multiple holidays with a Christmas tree, a menorah and general holiday colors and symbols.
Coney Island middle school students in the Mark Twain Choir were at the ceremony performing seasonal songs, and free hot chocolate and candy canes were served at the ceremony.
Organizers say they hope the lighting ceremony becomes an annual tradition.
