The NYPD says reports of an active shooter outside a Brooklyn high school Wednesday are unfounded.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. outside Fort Hamilton High School on Shore Road which prompted the school to go into lockdown.
Police say a female student told a classmate she thought she saw a man inside the school stairwell with what she believed was a gun.
The student told a classmate what she had seen and that student notified a teacher who called police.
Police responded to the school and searched the building but no gunman was found.
Police are not calling the incident a hoax, however they believe there is no credible threat to the school.
Police tweeted, "Due to an unconfirmed report of a possible person with a firearm. There is NO active shooter. The investigation is ongoing and we will update when more info is available."
There was a large police presence outside the school as dozens of officers responded to the area.
Concerned parents also gathered outside of the school looking for answers.
