Actors perform anti-violence play, open dialogue about social climate

Students, artists and other community members traveled to East New York Thursday to see some of their favorite Broadway actors perform the Euripedes play, “The Madness of Heracles.”
The play portrays an unthinkable act of violence and how a community copes.

The anti-violence event was held at the Louis H. Pink Houses Community Center and set out to open a dialogue about the current social climate, especially with regard to gun violence.

Some of the participating celebrities included Frankie Faison, Glenn Davis, Chinasa Ogubagu and Chris Coffey.

“When a shooting happens, it's not just the two people involved, it's a community that is involved,” said one of the actors “[And] our community right now needs to be healed.”

The performance was followed by an audience discussion.
