2 children critical after fire in Marlboro Houses apartment

Two young children are in critical condition after a fire broke out at the Marlboro Houses in Bensonhurst Saturday afternoon.
Officials say the fire was contained to a first-floor apartment, which was occupied at the time by eight people. Six were transported to a local hospital.
Four of the injured victims are children, with ages ranging from 9 months old to 9 years old.
News 12 is told two of the children and two adults are in critical condition, while the other victims are in serious but stable condition. News 12 is also told that two other victims were treated at the scene.
The apartment sustained a significant amount of damage.
Fire officials say the blaze was sparked by a faulty air conditioner. They also say there was a working smoke detector inside the apartment that went off.
