Crews battle 4-alarm fire on Clay Avenue

A massive fire tore through the top floor of a Claremont apartment building early Sunday morning.
News 12 is told 400 firefighters responded to the scene at 1686 Clay Ave. around 5 a.m. after flames erupted on the fifth floor of a building located just off the Cross Bronx Expressway.
FDNY officials say there were four minor injuries. Two firefighters were among the injured.
It is unclear what caused the fire, but some residents of the building believe it may have been a gas leak.
Officials say the rest of the building beneath the top floor is still habitable.
Firefighters at the scene are searching for hot spots, but say overall the fire is under control.
The American Red Cross is helping the 23 families displaced by the fire.
They are set up at P.S. 70 on Weeks Avenue to provide food, water and warmth.
