NYPD rescues dog tossed into garbage bag, left to die

NEW YORK -

A dog estimated to be 10 years old was found in a garbage bag by the side of a busy road in Brooklyn.

The shepherd-mix, named Saint Vincent, has been receiving care at Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group (VERG) since being saved Tuesday night.

"He was quite scared," says veterinarian Jillian DiFazio. "He was not able to get up, he has some ulcers around his mouth from having his mouth taped shut, and also he does have some decent scalding on his underbelly from having been peeing on himself as well."

After getting a radio call, an NYPD officer found the dog near the Jackie Robinson Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue stuffed into a garbage bag, laboring to breathe because of his taped mouth.

Video captured the dog being taken in by New York Bully Crew.

"We do get a lot of abuse cases, some hard-to-look-at cases," says Carla Mohan. "But just the sheer fact that someone deliberately did this with the intent to kill is awful, heart-wrenching."

Police are searching for the person responsible for leaving Saint Vincent to die, and New York Bully Crew is offering a reward that was at $4,500 and is expected to grow.

Once Saint Vincent is ready, the nonprofit will put him up for adoption.
