BROOKLYN -

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man suspected of raping a teenage girl.

Police say the incident happened on Dec. 19 around 5 p.m. near Hedgeman Avenue and Berriman Street.

Surveillance video captures the 23-year-old suspect entering a basement apartment with a 15-year-old girl.

They say the man allegedly sexually assaulted her, punched her in the face and stole her phone and jewelry before running off.

Police say the two are acquaintances.

Neighbors say they are warning their teens to be careful who they talk to.

According to the Anti-Sexual Abuse Organization, seven out of 10 rape cases are committed by someone the victim knows.
