Officials increase security for Times Square NYE celebration
The NYPD is putting extra security measures in place this New Year's Eve.
Authorities have banned all backpacks, large bags and umbrellas.
They say all bags will be searched.
There will also be no garbage cans on Broadway and 7th Avenue between 34th Street and 59th Street, but sanitation crews will be removing trash throughout the evening.
The NYPD says there will be no portable restrooms or food or drink vendors in Times Square for the entire night. They advise those planning on being in Times Square for the celebration to plan accordingly.
People are also advised to bundle up.
This New Year's Eve is expected to be the second coldest in history, with the temperature expected to be 11 degrees with a wind chill close to zero.
