An expecting mother in Brooklyn gave birth to the borough's first baby of 2018, coming nine days earlier than expected.

Only 25 minutes after midnight on New Year's Eve, Joshua Miguel Brito was born at New York City Health and Hospitals.

"I wasn't even waiting for the ball to drop. I was waiting for the baby to arrive," says Joshua's grandmother. 

Joshua Brito, the baby's father, lost his grandmother six years ago. But the baby's mother says her son came at the right time.

"It was hard on the family, and now that the baby is here, we have something to be happy about instead of her death," she says.
