NYCHA residents deal with sewage backup for hours in East NY

A sewage backup at a NYCHA building in East New York Sunday morning left some tenants wading in the dirty water for hours.
The first-floor tenants at the Linden Houses suffered through the unsanitary conditions beginning at 4 a.m.
After they say NYCHA could not help until Monday, they took matters into their own hands, washing out the water with the hall door open in freezing temperatures.
NYCHA crews eventually arrived around 11 a.m. to clean and disinfect the building.
The housing authority says maintenance workers are repairing the pipes, adding, "This situation is completely unacceptable and our residents deserve better."
