Burst pipe prompts day care evacuation in East Flatbush

A busted pipe in East Flatbush flooded children out of a Lenox Road building Tuesday afternoon.
A 911 caller initially reported flooding in the basement, below a first-floor day care center.
Most of the tenants weren't home at the time, but the children had to be evacuated.
"It was like a swimming pool," says witness Ariel Mahgerefteh. "There are like 40 or 50 kids in the day care, toddlers, young kids. But they're all fine. They all evacuated safely."
The children were taken down the street to a church to stay warm until their parents could pick them up, according to the woman running the day care center.
