A student-run food market at Brownsville Collaborative Middle School is encouraging healthy eating.
The Hip 2B Healthy Market, put on by the nonprofit Seed In The Middle, is being offered to students and the community.
Community organizations at the market are partnering to teach children about different fruits and vegetables and how to incorporate them into their daily diet.
There are many public housing developments in Brownsville, and health workers attribute illnesses like asthma to living in the of buildings.
State Sen. Jesse Hamilton's office helped contribute to the event and also sponsored it.
Organizers say they want to make the market a year-round event.
The market will be open through Monday.
