BROOKLYN -

A sports program for youths in Brooklyn with special needs is hoping to court a wider audience.

The Challenger Basketball Program at St. Marks has been going strong for 23 years in a row.

The program offers basketball coaching to special needs young people who are over the age of 16, but volunteers who run the nonprofit say they hope to expand the program to younger kids younger than 16.

The kids learn to dribble, pass and score in the program while also gaining confidence and making friends.
