Coney Island eyes offseason business improvements

What does Coney Island need this year? More year-round services, according to the Department of Small Business Services and the Coney Island Alliance.
First reported by Bklynr, the neighborhood's commercial district worked with SBS to explore ways to increase local business during the offseason.
That's because Coney Island's famous boardwalk attractions bring millions of visitors every year -- but mostly during the summer.
For large swaths of the year, commercial traffic is almost nonexistent, leaving storefronts shuttered and businesses vacant. And to some people, those very issues look like a business opportunity.
The next step is bringing in new business to fill the needs residents say they have, according to Alexandra Silversmith, the executive director of the Alliance for Coney Island.
