Construction continued Friday to make the pedestrian and bike path of the Brooklyn Bridge safer.
Officials say the work is part of the city’s efforts to make high profile public spaces safer. They say about 1,500 new bollards are being placed around the city.
Changes include building a new security bollard along the shared pedestrian and bike path near the base of the bridge.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said it's their way of keeping New York City safe from future attacks, like the one on the bike path in lower Manhattan.
A temporary pedestrian and bike bridge has been placed near the Tillery Street entrance.
