NYC carshare program raises parking concerns

Posted: Updated:
CARROLL GARDENS -

New York City's carshare pilot program is hoping to reduce headaches on the roads, but some are concerned that it will actually cause more issues.

The Department of Transportation's program will designate 300 street parking spots citywide as reserved for carshare vehicles.

The plan aims to reduce personal car ownership, improve transportation access for those who need short-term car use, improve air quality and reduce congestion.

But some community members are concerned that the program will cause a more difficult parking hunt in already busy neighborhoods.

"There is a Zipcar if they really want to do a car share," says Alena Radice, a Carroll Gardens resident. "I think it's just going to make it worse."

The program will go into effect this coming spring.

Anyone with concerns about locations of carshare parking spaces can contact Community Board 6 at adm@brooklyncb6.org
