A collective of artists in Brooklyn is on a mission, not just to entertain but to educate the community.
The Kriyol Dance! Collective brings together artists from different backgrounds with a common desire to explore their roots.
They create dance through music or the spoken word, and have a special focus on traditional Haitian dance and rhythms.
KDC also hosts programs throughout Brooklyn including workshops, dance classes, and performances.
Founder Veroneque Ignace says they want to transform art from entertainment into social commentary.
"Our mission is to go into the community and bring resources straight and directly to them," Ignace says.
KDC is working on a piece about resistance, revolution and wellness.
It will premiere at the end of June.
