Best of Brooklyn: Hospital earns baby-friendly award

Posted: Updated:
CONEY ISLAND -

A Brooklyn hospital has earned a prestigious "baby-friendly" award.

The initiative at the NYC Health and Hospitals Coney Island was awarded for its education program that offers new mothers information and skills needed to properly breastfeed.

The hospital no longer uses a nursery, and now mothers can stay with their newborns 24/7 once they are born, according to hospital staff.

Staff members say more than 80 percent of mothers choose to breastfeed their baby after going through the program.
