'Black Panther Challenge' allows kids to see newest Marvel movie for free

BROOKLYN -

Some lucky students from Brooklyn attended a free pre-screening of Marvel's newest film as part of the "#BlackPantherChallenge."

Half a dozen kids from P.S. 284 in Brownsville saw the movie at The Museum of Modern Art.

"It's important for our students to see this film because it's a predominantly African-American cast and our school is predominantly made up of African-American and Hispanic students," says Principal Keva Pitts-Girard. "It's great to be able to see someone representing them."

The eighth-graders joined about 30 other Brownsville students for the screening, which was funded by state Sen. Jesse Hamilton, nonprofit Reel Works and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Tuesday's screening was one of more than 100 "#BlackPantherChallenge" campaigns to bring African-American kids to see the movie for free.
