What’s Cool at School: Kids design skate park

Posted: Updated:
BROOKLYN -

A Brooklyn school program is teaching students city planning and design skills by creating a mock skate park.

The new design lab at P.S. 132 is bringing city planning to life with funding from the Walentas Family Foundation and the borough president's office.

The fifth-graders are tasked with creating models of skate parks while applying science, math, and creative thinking.

The program teaches problem-solving and teamwork in order to build life skills, organizers say.

This is the third year the school has had a residency with the non-profit Salvadori Center, which teaches kids to apply math and science through architecture.
