Children were still celebrating Valentine’s Day this Thursday by handing out special gifts to senior citizens in Bed-Stuy.
Students at P.S. 59 teamed up with police officer Michelle McLeod to hand out cards for seniors living in the area at Restoration Plaza.
The 8- and 9-year-olds handed out homemade Valentine’s Day cards with a mission to put a smile on someone’s face.
“My Valentine's Day card says Happy Valentine's Day to someone very special, and the little girl that gave it gave the best hug and I just felt so good,” said attendee Denise Drayton.
The event was organized by Councilman Robert E. Cornegy Jr. as a way to thank those who made the neighborhood what it is.
“They're a vulnerable population so we have to honor them but we also have to protect them,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
