Mount Hope tenants hope for gas fix

A group of Mount Hope tenants say their building has been without cooking gas for almost a year.
They live at 156 East 178th St., and the landlord, Arthur Gibbons, has already spent 60 days in jail for not keeping his building up to code. The city also fined him $18,000 in 2015.
The Department of Buildings says the gas there was shut off because of a leak. After further investigation, officials say, they discovered illegal gas work had been done.
Residents say they've purchased cooking appliances that don't use gas, spending money they shouldn't have had to.
Zoe Kheman of the Legal Aid Society says the tenants will go to Bronx Housing Court to request an independent party gain control of building management.
News 12 reached out to Gibbons multiple times, but his voice mailbox is full.
