A Brooklyn-based solar energy tech startup is making Brownsville homes more energy efficient.
Blocpower finances, engineers and installs solar panels and other clean energy projects in lower-income neighborhoods.
It's a very personal project for CEO, founder and Brooklyn resident Donnel Baird.
"As the economy changes and moves towards clean energy, we want Brownsville to own a piece of that pie because we're from here. I feel much more comfortable now knowing that not only am I getting the energy that I've been getting, but I'm saving more money in doing so," Baird says.
Blocpower uses special software to determine if its customers will benefit from solar energy and plugs energy gaps inside their homes.
Baird says the goal is to end greenhouse emissions by 2-3 percent in the United States over the next four to five years.
