Residents voice concern over deadly intersection following crash

After a deadly car accident last month at the intersection of Ocean Parkway and Church Avenue, residents say they want officials to do more to improve safety there.
Police say the accident happened when the driver of a box truck was turning along Church Avenue. That's when he hit a man who was crossing the street.
The victim was taken to Methodist Hospital for a head injury and was ultimately pronounced dead.
Residents say the intersection is notoriously dangerous and more should be done to promote safety.
The Dept. of Transportation says they have previously installed a pedestrian island to help people cross the street and use speed cameras to monitor drivers.
A spokesperson from the DOT told News 12 in a statement, "Vision Zero and safety are the DOT's top priorities and New York City is seeing a continued decline in fatalities, including pedestrian deaths in Brooklyn. We take each fatality seriously and we will study this intersection for potential treatments."
