A Brooklyn photographer is the man behind some of the most iconic civil rights movement photos in U.S. history.

As a journalist, Leroy Henderson had a front row seat to the civil rights movement and captured the struggle up close.

From pictures of Coretta Scott King on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to Andrew Young, one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s right hand men. 

Henderson has no shortage of iconic photos inside of his Bed-Stuy home.

The photojournalist was born and raised in Brooklyn.

Henderson both witnessed and took pictures during several events of  the civil rights movement, including protests of the Vietnam War.

After 50 years, he says he realizes the depth of the legacy he is leaving behind.

"It lives up to something that I realized some time ago. Although, I want to make money from my photography and support myself, I also want my photographs to reach people in a meaningful way," he says.
