Scouts collect care packages for Puerto Rico hurricane victims

Boy and Girl Scouts in East Flatbush are putting together care packages full of essentials for hurricane victims in Puerto Rico with the help of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church.
Members of the congregation tell News 12 that goods have been pouring in ever since the boys and girls requested participation from the community.
Senior Pastor Lawrence Womack tells News 12 that the church made the request for donations over several Sundays. He says the congregation has since contributed so much that there was almost difficulty in finding enough storage.
The kids have been working in assembly lines to pack up the many toothbrushes, toothpaste, clothes and household essentials for shipment.
Scout leaders say the effort is teaching the children how to be good citizens by being kind, helpful, caring and courageous.
