Yankees fans turned out in a good mood Tuesday for the team's delayed home opener, despite foul weather a day after some rare April snowfall.
"The snow yesterday was an omen," said Dave Heverao, one of the fans outside Yankee Stadium.
He pointed out that it snowed on opening day in 1996. Unlike Monday, the game went on anyway, and the Yankees won.
The Yankees went on to win the World Series that year, four games to two over a powerhouse Atlanta Braves team.
This year's home opener — postponed a day and then delayed 10 minutes — saw a sold-out crowd as the Yankees took the field against the Tampa Bay Rays.
