A 99 Cents store in Downtown Brooklyn is under fire after selling umbrellas made to look like weapons.
Mable Haskins tells News 12 Brooklyn she spotted the gun lookalikes last week when she visited the store to buy an umbrella. She said she couldn’t believe her eyes, calling the decision to sell such items “irresponsible and immoral.”
Haskins says we live in a dangerous world, and selling items like these could be deadly. She recounted the recent fatal shooting of a Crown Heights man who was thought to be holding a gun.
The store had the “Bolt Action” umbrellas on display until Saturday afternoon when News 12’s Paula Vassan confronted a store employee.
News 12 has since reached out to the umbrella’s manufacturer, Gibson Enterprises Inc., but has not yet received a response.
