The 77th Precinct Community Council honored local residents Monday night who have made a difference in their community.

The honorees ranged from NYPD detectives to elected officials.

Chief Jeffrey Maddrey says the event helps improve relations between the department and the community.

"They're letting people know that they respect that work," Maddrey says. "It's important to show that the police and the community are working together."
