Homeowner: Pit bull attacks Maltese in Copiague backyard

A Copiague woman says her 7-year-old daughter's pet Maltese was injured Saturday after getting attacked by a neighbor's pit bull.
Patience Daniels says the incident occurred Saturday morning her father's home on 45th Street in Copiague.
Homeowners told News 12 that the dog named Molly was playing in the backyard with children when the pit bull entered the yard and pounced.
Molly was left with a fractured pelvis. Veterinarians told Daniels she may need another surgery.
Neighbors on the block say they're worried about future attacks.
"I'm hoping they take the dog away,” said Daniels. “I definitely don't want the dog on the block around the kids."
Daniels says many residents are afraid of the pit bull that sometimes runs loose in the street. She says it’s the second time this particular dog attacked Molly.
The 5-year-old Maltese had a leg amputated after an incident last summer.
News 12’s Logan Crawford knocked on the pit bull owner's door, but no one answered.
Daniels says they called the police after the most recent attack and are working to get a court order to have the dog taken away.
