Shipping containers to be transformed into art studios, storefronts
An economic development initiative is giving artists and entrepreneurs the opportunity to take over storage containers on New Lots Avenue and Elton Street as a part of the [Re]New Lots project.
Four artists have been given permission to use containers as their studios to showcase their art and music and hold classes. Two entrepreneurs will have storefronts in the containers.
Organizers are hoping the initiative will bring the community together and encourage residents to shop locally. It also gives the artists the opportunity to build their work and get their names out.
Construction begins in July and the lot is expected to be open to the public starting Black Friday.
