Chunks of Church Ave. building tumble down to ground

Part of the facade of a Church Avenue building fell off Wednesday afternoon, leaving car-sized chunks of debris on the sidewalk.
An awning and other parts of the building crashed down and blocked doorways, trapping some residents in their homes for part of the afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Department of Building said inspectors were sent to 2831 Church Ave. to investigate the incident.
First responders say no one was seriously hurt. One person may have been struck by falling rubble, but they are expected to be OK.
Part of the damage occurred at a Trinidadian restaurant. Witnesses from inside say everyone there made it out unhurt.
Richard Rajkumar, who works at the restaurant, says the incident rattled his niece.
"She had to run for her life, because things kept dropping close to her head," he says.
Records show the building previously had some DOB violations, but most of them were closed or dismissed.
A man who answered the phone at MJD Management, which owns the building, said he did not know what caused the collapse and that someone was on the way to evaluate the damage and speak with tenants.
