An overnight shooting in Brownsville killed a man and injured four other people, one critically, police say.
Bullets struck the first three victims on Bristol Street just before midnight, according to investigators. More gunfire struck the other two down the street.
At least one shot struck an 18-year-old in the stomach. He was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.
A 21-year-old victim was placed on a ventilator and was fighting for his life with a gunshot wound to the head. The other three victims are in stable condition at hospitals.
Video shows people inside an SUV firing upon the crowd and another video shows the victims on the ground outside the Marcus Garvey Village Houses.
A short while later, police say they received a call about a hit-and-run involving a car that matched the description of the shooters' vehicle. Responding officers found an unoccupied blue Hyundai SUV a short distance away.
"I am confident that that car was used by the people or persons responsible for the shooting last night," says Assistant Chief Michael Kemper of the NYPD.
He also has a stern warning for violent criminals.
"Anybody who believes that they are going to come in our neighborhoods and engage in violence -- and in particular gun violence -- we're going to go after you," he says.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
