A man shot overnight in a Bed-Stuy playground died from his injuries Friday morning.
Authorities say a gunman shot 29-year-old Johnny Mathis in the head just before 2 a.m. Friday at the Eleanor Roosevelt Playground, where neighbors say he was attending a cookout.
They did not reopen the playground until late Friday afternoon.
Friends and family describe Mathis as quiet and respectful, saying he wasn't the type to cause trouble.
Mathis leaves behind his parents and 5-year-old son.
Police have released few details about the suspect, other than that he was wearing all red.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
The slaying comes amid a stretch of nice weather and a day after another man was killed and four others wounded in a drive-by shooting in Brownsville. And earlier in the week, gunfire struck two others at a building on Eastern Parkway.
