Two men were recovering in separate Brooklyn hospitals Monday after a stabbing Sunday night at the Sleep Inn in Gravesend.

Around 11 p.m., police say a 47-year-old man and a 31-year-old man got into an argument in the parking lot of the Stillwell Avenue hotel. The location also doubles as temporary housing for displaced families and is regulated by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. Both men involved are clients of DHS.

Detectives say the 31-year-old punched the 47-year-old, who uses a wheelchair, and the 47-year-old then stabbed the younger man in the stomach area. Friends say the man in a wheelchair accused the 31-year-old of having an affair with his wife.

DHS says there are security measures in place such as 24/7 patrols by NYPD and security cameras.

Guests say the hotel's security must be increased, especially when they're paying more than $200 a night for a room. One guest says he wasn't able to leave since his car was in the parking lot where it all took place. He wishes the hotel had been up front about its relationship with DHS.

"With NYPD overseeing shelter security for the first time, we are improving security with strengthened reporting and monitoring by the most effective police force in the nation," a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.

Both men involved in the fight were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition. They each face assault charges.

News 12 did not immediately hear back from the Sleep Inn corporate office for comment.
