Authorities were combing through piles of trash at Metropolitan Paper Recycling in East New York after a woman in Queens admitted to throwing out her newborn she claimed was stillborn.
Police say the 23-year-old woman told them she gave birth Sunday to a premature baby that was unresponsive. She says she threw out the newborn in a trash can before checking herself into a hospital on Wednesday.
Police believed the body may have wound up at Metropolitan Paper Recycling, a private sanitation company that services the five boroughs. News 12 did not hear back from the company for comment.
No arrests have been made at this time.
