This week is Construction Safety Week, and NYCHA is spreading the word at one of its biggest projects in Red Hook – the replacement of the rooftops at the Red Hook Houses.
One of the main hazards at a construction site is the chance that someone or something might fall.
So workers who use suspended scaffolds are required to train for it. And NYCHA says it informs nearby residents about construction projects by going door to door.
Tenants may be asked to use different entrances or walk down different paths for safety reasons while construction is ongoing, officials say.
And the city's No. 1 construction goal is to make sure its high-rise workers make it home safely at the end of every day.
Contractors have safety meetings in the mornings and discuss hazard mitigation procedures, officials say.
