EAST FLATBUSH -

Haitian flags waved proudly in Brooklyn Friday to celebrate the country’s flag day as well the formation of the “Little Haiti Business and Cultural District” in East Flatbush.

A new street sign was unveiled naming Nostrand Avenue, where it meets Newkirk Avenue, “Toussaint L’Ouverture Boulevard,” in honor of a well-known leader of the Haitian Revolution.

East Flatbush resident Nadege Fleurimond said, "We're standing in front of a Haitian church; you have Haitian merchants, Haitian shop owners, so we're really part of the whole fabric of the community"

Studies show Flatbush has one of the largest concentration of Haitians in the entire country.

New York state Assembly member Rodneyse Bichotte said, "We're trying to bring more economic development, opportunities for people to understand the Haitian culture."
