A break has been made in a cold case out of Bergen County after prosecutors charged a suspect in a murder back in 1999.
Hyo Lee was sexually assaulted and murdered near her home in Englewood.
Jose Colon has now been charged with her murder.
Colon was deported to Nicaragua after serving time in Ohio for a similar crime.
The Cold Case Unit in Bergen County is working with federal officials to extradite him to the U.S. for trial.
New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal says, "When a crime goes unsolved, especially a serious crime like murder or rape, justice is denied, victims and survivors lack closure, and a dangerous criminal may be left free to victimize others."
Grewal says society is harmed because our sense of security under the rule of law is shaken.
