Prospect Park buys weed-pulling boat

PROSPECT PARK -

Officials unveiled an aquatic weed harvesting machine Friday at Prospect Park in their effort to keep the lake there clean.

The $140,000 piece of equipment was purchased with the help of City Council members Brad Lander and Mathieu Eugene, through the participatory budget -- which means community members also voted in favor of the idea.

Members of the Prospect Park Alliance say the machine is capable of cutting and collecting weeds and garbage -- while saving wildlife that it accidentally scooped up to return to the water unharmed.

The Prospect Park Alliance is asking for the public to submit name proposals for the new machine.
