New Yorkers traveling between Brooklyn and Queens will be able to purchase discounted Long Island Rail Road tickets starting Wednesday.
The "Atlantic Ticket" will cost $5 for a roundtrip -- down from the previous $10 fare. It's valid in Brooklyn from the Atlantic Terminal, East New York and Nostrand Avenue stations to seven Queens stops.
Commuters will also be able to purchase unlimited ride tickets for travel between those stations and transfers to subways and buses for just about the same price as the current unlimited fare for just subways and buses.
The discounted tickets will be available for six to 12 months as part of a study to measure the impact lower fares would have on LIRR, subway and bus ridership.
