Club Lust in Brooklyn shuts down

SUNSET PARK -

The popular Club Lust in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood has shut its doors.

The indefinite closure has led to #JusticeForLustNY circulating throughout Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The New York Post reports that rappers 50 Cent and Cardi B -- who used to work there as a dancer -- have voiced their support for the club.

In April, the club lost its liquor license. The owner then filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming he was unfairly targeted by excessive inspections and enforcement because he would not buckle to pressure from an NYPD deputy inspector looking for handouts that included round-trip tickets to Puerto Rico.

The lawyer for Deputy Inspector Emmanuel Gonzalez says they are considering a lawsuit against the owner.

Eric Sanders, the lawyer representing the owner, said in a statement, "Once we rid ourselves of these parasites, the club will be rebooted to serve as a viable employment option and entertainment destination."

For their part, supporters of the club say they hope the social media outcry helps make a difference.

Police records show that dozens of crimes have been committed over the years inside the club, including robbery, assault and theft.
