The NYPD made 45 arrests Wednesday as it took down three criminal operations related to guns and drugs in Brooklyn.
According to investigators, the first takedown involved the "Boss Crew," a subset of the Bloods gang. It mainly sold crack cocaine in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Fifteen suspected members of the gang were arrested.
Documents show that "Operation Triple Play" involved drugs such as heroin, crack cocaine and Oxycontin being sold in and out of three New York City Housing Authority developments in Brownsville -- the Langston Hughes, Seth Low and Van Dyke houses. That takedown resulted in the arrests of twenty-seven members of the "Wave Gang."
Investigators say the third takedown involved a gun trafficking operation run by 34-year-old Joseph Johnson, who had residences in both East Flatbush and Virginia. As part of the scheme, detectives say straw buyers lied on ATF forms by falsely certifying that they were not purchasing the firearms on the behalf of others. Johnson then allegedly used Facebook to market those weapons to people with gang ties in Brooklyn.
Many of the suspects have long rap sheets that include multiple violent offenses. Some have been arraigned and a few are still on the loose. Police say they expect more arrests will be made.
