Annual Wallball National Championships held in Coney Island

Handball players from around the country gathered in Brooklyn for a unique sporting event Saturday.

The annual Wallball National Championships is a Coney Island tradition that draws players and audiences from near and far to enjoy the lively competition at the center of the handball universe.

News 12 is told that the sport has a long history in Coney Island – with its courts being built during the Great Depression.

Fans say the event welcomes people from all walks of life and offers a beautiful opportunity to enjoy the beach and participate in a legendary tradition.

The finals will take place Sunday afternoon.
