Petition aims to ease summer traffic on City Island

City Island residents are petitioning for increased police traffic enforcement during the busy spring and summer months.
Residents have been pushing for some type of barrier leading to the island for almost three years. Those barriers were finally installed last week, preventing cars from cutting others when waiting to get onto the island.
But residents say that's just the first step in solving the traffic issue. Dan Treiber, a lifelong City Island resident and business owner, is behind the petition.
"For two months of the year, usually in July and August on the weekends, when the police come and enforce, it's very helpful," he says. "However, it's inconsistent and it's a five-month problem with a two-month solution."
The residents are asking for more traffic enforcement on a regular basis from April to September. They say they plan on taking their concerns and signatures to police headquarters.
The petition was started last month with over 300 signatures.
News 12 has reached out to the city but has not yet to hear back.
