Latin American photo festival held in Melrose

Dozens of photographers from across the Caribbean and Latin America are exhibiting their work across eight locations around Melrose.
The Latin American Photo Festival is sponsored by the Bronx Documentary Center, an organization whose goal is to share documentary photography, film and new media with under-served Bronx communities and the cultural community at large.
Installations located in parks, schools, gardens and along city sidewalks take viewers on a journey through the eyes of nearly two dozen photographers.
“It’s important work that mixes the different aspects of your culture and what your community could stand for,” said Isabelle Figueroa, a Bronx Documentary Center volunteer.
The festival exhibits photos of countries like Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador and Puerto Rico.
"If you go into a community garden and see art, it's a different experience than walking into clean, white walls and experiencing art," said Figueroa.
All of the photos will be on display through July 22.
