Funeral services were held Friday in East New York for Latrell Brown, a 16-year-old who was fatally shot on his way to basketball practice last week in Bed-Stuy.
Friends, family and even his high school teachers showed up to pay their respects.
Police say Brown was shot after getting into a dispute with 17-year-old Justin Delapara.
Brown's girlfriend, who was with him at the time, says the altercation lasted no more than a few seconds and started after Delapara asked Brown what he was looking at. She says he then took out a gun and opened fire.
“He really wanted to play basketball…and he wanted to make a lot of music,” said Maximo Martinez, a close friend of Brown. “…his music was good, he could’ve really went somewhere with it. It’s sad that everything went to waste.”
Delapara has since been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
