New commander takes over Fort Hamilton Army base

Posted: Updated:
BAY RIDGE -

There's a new commander in charge of Fort Hamilton Army base in Bay Ridge.

Every two years, the tradition of passing the Fort Hamilton colors symbolizes the transfer of responsibilities from one person in charge to the next.

In this case it was Col. Peter Sicoli, who took part in a special ceremony in which he relinquished his command to Col. Andrew Zieseniss.

Zieseniss will start new relationships with the community outside the base, as well as with the NYPD and FDNY.

He says he looks "forward to being part of the community."
