Breukelen Houses tenant says apartment is dangerous

CANARSIE -

A tenant living in the Breukelen Houses for almost eight years says the dangerous conditions in her apartment make it unlivable and that the New York City Housing Authority has ignored her pleas for help.

She showed News 12 bubbling walls, a hole between the kitchen and bathroom, a leaking toilet and roaches crawling out of nooks and crannies in her unit.

"This is unacceptable," a NYCHA spokesperson said in a statement. "We must do better to provide all residents the safe, clean homes they deserve."

NYCHA also says a plumber last week had to open a hole in the bathroom to check where the leak was coming from and that it is currently scheduling workers to make more permanent repairs.

The tenant says she is considering legal action against the city agency.
