Officials say the fire sparked around 8:30 p.m. in the area above the building's top floor, known as a cockloft. By 10, the flames were under control.
Authorities say there are nine apartments on the top floor, and three of them were affected by the fire. They say one of the apartments was vacant, and residents in the other units evacuated safely.
Officials say there is structural damage to the inside of the apartments, and crews had to make holes in the ceiling.
